Our founder Semajae, has a strong passion for educating, creating, and empowering others. Her work is deeply influenced by her aspiration of being a resource. In doing so she aims to keep traditions and generations of history and information alive.

Through the years she’s developed skills like communications, public speaking, performance, acting, singing, and dancing. Attending programs like: Black Eyed Peas Peapod Music and Arts Academy, Later refining her craft in Get Lit Youth Poetry Program. Through which she was featured in her first poetry book. Her work was even featured in an art gallery in high school. 

 Semajae later founded her own community organization alongside her best friend Itzel Hernandez — Providing Platforms LA —  music, poetry, art, recreational activities, and amplifying the voice of black and brown youth, all while actively being enrolled in college. Eventually graduating from El Camino College with high honors,  earning a License of Barbering and Cosmetology. 

Semajae continues to captivate audiences through evocative storytelling, writing, and performances, at local open mics or networking events using her words to shed light on important social issues and celebrate the beauty of human resilience. This dedication to empowerment extends beyond poetry into her role as a hair-care professional, where she harnesses a new medium to educate and uplift men and women - to embrace their natural hair with confidence. To those of all backgrounds learning the unique needs of curly hair styling. Her expertise spans combing out matted hair, loc styling, natural hair weddings, and 1on1 education.

 Hair by Semajae empowers countless people to embrace their texture while providing them with the tools and knowledge to maintain healthy, thriving curls on their own.  

This commitment to excellence has earned her features in notable publications such as the Los Angeles Times, VOYAGE LA, and Canvas Rebel. Throughout her career, she has seamlessly weaved her passions for preserving traditions, speaking, and educating, into her legacy as a haircare professional.

Her work explores the deep connection between routine hair care and self preservation. An impact that lasts far beyond the chair,  into the hearts and minds of generations that haven't even been born yet.
