Biography

Semajae Brown-West, also known as HAIRBYSEMAJAE is a, Cosmetologist and Los Angeles native redefining the standards of hair care and artistry for over 13 years. 

Raised in Watts as the youngest of six siblings, grew up surrounded by rich cultural diversity -- which deeply influences her passion for educating, creating, and empowering through her work.Her journey began at the intersection of art and media. She honed her skills in acting, singing, modeling, and dancing while attending the Black Eyed Peas Peapod Music and Arts Academy and further refined her craft through the prestigious Get Lit Youth Poetry Program. These experiences not only shaped her voice as an multi-disciplinary artist but, also ignited her mission to inspire others through creative expression. Semajae later went on to start her own community organization for music art and recreational activites and eventually graduated from El Camino College as a high honor student and earning her license of Cosmetology and Barbering soon after, demonstrating her dedication to excellence and overachievement.

 Semajae also captivates audiences with her evocative storytelling and performances, using her words to shed light on important social issues and celebrate the beauty of human resilience, through poetry. She has been writing since she was 13 years old. This dedication to empowerment extends beyond poetry and into her work as a Hair-Care professional, where she discovers a new medium to educate and uplift others.

Her Mission is to educate individuals of all backgrounds on the unique needs of curly and textured hair. Her expertise spans loc styling, natural hair treatments, and personalized hair care regimens, with a focus on celebrating the natural beauty of kinky and coily hair textures. Her craft is dedicated to empowering men and women to embrace their natural hair with confidence.  Hair by Semajae, has empowered countless people to embrace their hair's natural texture while providing them with the tools and knowledge to maintain healthy, thriving curls. Her commitment to excellence and innovation earns her features in notable publications such as the Los Angeles Times,  VOYAGE LA,  and El Camino Newsletter.
